Surya and Dave, the founders of Wee Gallery, became parents and learned about using high-contrast artwork to stimulate baby development. As their children grew older, they built a fun and creative world of animals and nature themes, thoughtfully designed to entertain and educate kids from newborn babies to young children.

Our toys are Montessori-inspired and created for each stage of childhood development to encourage learning through play. From our Playmats featuring organic cotton fabrics, to our Art Cards and Lacing Cards, we design our products with care to support baby and child development. Using organic and child-safe materials, our toys and textiles are high-quality and made to last.

Did you know that babies develop in so many ways during their first five years, more than they learn over the rest of their lives? As a graphic designer with a background in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, and a teacher, Surya and Dave were fascinated by the idea of helping their baby's brain develop by playing with visuals. They discovered that newborns can only see as far as 12 to 15 inches away, are most taken with their parents' faces, and are drawn to simple but repeating geometric shapes in black and white. Around 6 months of age, babies begin to recognize animal forms and later call them by name.

Wee Gallery's infant playmat features a hand-illustrated woodland scene on one side and a neutral cityscape on the other. Ethically made in India from organic cotton muslin and Oeko-tex polyester padding with hand stitching to make it washable, the outer layer of our baby mat also features a double layer of organic voile for extra soft cushioning to support regular use.

As our son used the Art Cards, we discovered that as motor skills develop, babies start to grab the cards to look at them. As you tell stories for each animal, your baby may listen and look, starting to turn the card again and again. As a baby approaches one year, he or she may carry the cards around, sharing them with you and ask for a story!
